Why not steal the whole definition from Wikipedia and go straight to some great examples instead? “Reverse graffiti, also known as clean tagging, dust tagging, grime writing or clean advertising, is a method of creating temporary images on walls or other surfaces by removing dirt from a surface.”

I hope you haven’t missed that Grain & Gram wrote a new article? This time they visited printmaker Nick Sambrato and his printshop Mama’s Sauce (you can actually follow them on Twitter — @mamassauce). And they added a film and some more photos than the did in the last feature. Awesome stuff. You can find the article at grainandgram.com/nicksambrato. I’ll post the film right here though. Pentragram has made the branding of USA’s bid for FIFA World Cup 2018 or 2022. And it looks really neat with big, colorful type and the slogan The Game Is In Us (US). As they put it themselves: “The campaign centers on a phrase, “The Game is in US,” and utilizes a custom-designed typeface called Game and bold color palette to convey the unmatched enthusiasm and amazing diversity of soccer fans in the US.”

Love this poster by Jude Landry, Assistant Professor of Art at Mississippi State University. It has got such lightness and precision. He made it when they invited Jessica Hische to do a lecture and lettering demo. “The large letter J was inspired by her daily drop caps. We printed it with a silver spot color on fudge brown paper.”

The Girl.

I watched the Swedish film The Girl (Flickan) the other day, played by 10-year old Blanca Engström, and it was one of the most beautifully shot films I’ve seen in a very long time. The film is directed by debutant Fredrik Edfeldt and it is Swiss cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema who is responsible for the remarkable photo. van Hoytema won a Guldbagge at the Swedish movie awards for The Girl. van Hoytema was also the one who shot Let the Right One In a few years back, also a very beautiful film.

Love these posters by London based design studio Proud Creative. And you can also buy them and put them on your own wall! Or your kids’. Oh, how I like the grid, the simplicity and the fact that it just feels right. Especially the orange one caught my eye. Wonderful. And I love how they haven’t chosen a bunch of stereotypical typefaces.

This is how Proud themselves describe the project: “The brief was to create an aesthetically pleasing and useful multiplication table for children, but one which would look great up on their parents’ wall.” I think they got it spot on.

There are other things worth checking out at Prouds www. They have done some amazing work and you really should take a look through their portfolio. Quality, quality work. And there are a few other things in the shop that might catch your eye.

Happy F&B just won a gold medal in Cannes for the design of three posters for Swedish printing house Elanders. And I have to say, they are stunning. Although, you really need to see them in the flesh to appreciate the design and especially the printing. Super stuff!
